Installing Love on the Human Computer:

Tech Support: Yes, how can I help you?

Customer: Well, after much consideration, I’ve decided to install Love. Can you guide me through the process?

Tech Support: Yes. I can help you. Are you ready to proceed?

Customer: Well, I’m not very technical, but I think I’m ready. What do I do first?

Tech Support: The first step is to open your Heart. Have you located your Heart?

Customer: Yes, but there are several other programs running now. Is it okay to install Love while they are running?

Tech Support: What programs are running ?

Customer: Let’s see, I have Past Hurt, Low Self-Esteem, Grudge and Resentment running right now.

Tech Support: No problem, Love will gradually erase Past Hurt from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory but it will no longer  disrupt other programs. Love will eventually override Low Self-Esteem with a module of its own called High Self-Esteem. However, you have to completely turn off Grudge and Resentment. Those programs prevent Love from being properly installed. Can you turn those off ?

Customer: I don’t know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how?

Tech Support: With pleasure. Go to your start menu and invoke Forgiveness. Do this as many times as necessary until Grudge and Resentment have been completely erased.

Customer: Okay, done! Love has started installing itself. Is that normal?

Tech Support: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You need to begin connecting to other Hearts in order to get the upgrades.

Customer: Oops! I have an error message already. It says, “Error – Program not run on external components.”  What should I do?

Tech Support: Don’t worry. It means that the Love program is set up to run on Internal Hearts, but has not yet been run on your Heart. In non-technical terms, it simply means you have to Love yourself before you can Love others.

Customer: So, what should I do?

Tech Support: Pull down Self-Acceptance; then click on the following files: Forgive-Self; Realize Your Worth; and Acknowledge your Limitations.

Customer: Okay, done.

Tech Support: Now, copy them to the “My Heart” directory. The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching faulty programming.
Also, you need to delete Verbose Self-Criticism from all directories and empty your Recycle Bin to make sure it is completely gone and never comes back.

Customer: Got it. Hey! My heart is filling up with new files.Smile is playing on my monitor and Peace and Contentment are copying themselves all over My Heart. Is this normal?

Tech Support: Sometimes. For others it takes awhile, but eventually everything gets it at the proper time. So Love is installed and running.

.
One more thing before we hang up. Love is Freeware. Be sure to give it and its various modules to everyone you meet. They will in turn share it with others and return some cool  modules back to you.

Customer: Thank you, Spirit.

Spirit/Tech Support: You’re Welcome, Anytime.

Samhain and Halloween – what does it mean?

English: Halloween pumpkin.
English: Halloween pumpkin. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Halloween is one of the most popular holidays in whole world. This celebration in the West means pumpkins, witches and ghosts. In other countries where Christian and Catholic roots are prevalent, the Day of the Dead is celebrated, but what’s it really about and how can you celebrate it?.

As with many festivals that we celebrate today, such as Christmas and Easter, Halloween comes from Pagan times, and was (and is still by many Pagans) called Samhain, which can be pronounced Sow-een, Sow-in or Sav-ain and is usually celebrated from or somewhere between October 31st and November 11th..

Samhain is a time when the boundaries between the living and the dead become blurred and thin, and it is the time of the year when it is supposed to be easiest for the dead to come to the earthly realm.  This has perhaps lead to the idea that Halloween is a scary time – but it should be one of respect and celebration!

I went to a Catholic girls school many years ago (kind of funny when you become a Pagan, RE lessons were always a big debate!) and my head teacher explained at assembly that Halloween is a scary time, and the following day (Day of All Saints or All Hallows) is to get rid of this badness and let the ‘good’ in.

I politely explained afterwards that in fact Halloween (Hallows Eve) and All Saints Day were derived from the Pagan festival Samhain and is about honouring the dead, and to her credit she took it on board and asked me to do the assembly next year!

As most Pagans and Wiccans believe in reincarnation, or the spirit of a person or animal as continuing in some way, this time of year is special since it represents a celebration of continued life.

Many other cultures also have a time to honour their dead, for instance in Mexico they have Los Dias De Las Muertos or ‘The Day of the Dead.’ Samhain is also the last of the Harvest festivals, as for Pagans in the Northern Hemisphere, it coincides with the last harvest before winter.  This is where the pumpkins come into it as they represented food from the harvest!

.

How you can celebrate Samhain

Ceramic Mini Cauldron for burning Incense
Ceramic Mini Cauldron for burning Incense

Like any Pagan festival, the way is open for you to celebrate in whichever feels right.  However here are some traditional ways and guidelines that you may wish to follow.

A word of warning: If you are not an experienced Witch or Pagan to avoid such things as chanting or drumming to raise the dead, unless you are with experienced magick workers, as these are very strong energies! It is also wise to ask goddesses or whoever you like to invoke, for protection.

.

Decorating your altar

In keeping with the harvest theme, why not decorate your altar with pumpkins, corn or hay, gourds or conkers, or anything else relating to the season. (Just use what is around if you are from the southern hemisphere!) Offerings of cakes and ale are also appropriate.

Black candles are also ideal, especially ritually charged black candles, which help to provide protection.

The cauldron is also an important symbol for Halloween, you might wish to put a mini cauldron incense burner there, and burn something like frankincense or myrrh which are traditionally used to honour the dead.

.

Ritual ideas..

  • As mentioned, the cauldron is often important for Samhain rituals, so if you have a big one, this could be the focal point of your ritual.
  • You might wish to invite the Crone or Wise Woman to bring wisdom to you, or the story of the Goddess Cerridwen.
  • For honouring and contacting the dead, ritual drumming or chanting can be excellent. Why not place items of those you wish to honour on your altar?
  • Bobbing for apples is an ancient Pagan tradition, as apple magick was highly valued.  When you catch the apple in your teeth a little of your soul is supposed to creep into the apple and then you can either eat it for prosperity or bury it in your garden or a green space nearby to ensure abundance over the coming winter months.
  • You may wish to try crystal ball scrying or some other method of divination to contact those you wish to honour and communicate with.Isis for Magical Inspiration
    .

Goddesses and Gods you can Invoke..

  • Hecate
  • Cerridwen
  • Morrigan
  • The Wise Woman (Crone)
  • Anubis
  • Isis
  • Ishtar
  • Cernunnos

Whichever way you choose to celebrate Samhain, it’s a great time to honour the dead, celebrate life and appreciate the changing of the seasons.

Blessings

Daily Mail Slanders Druids – We Protest!

Last week, Melanie Philips of the Daily Mail wrote a very unfair, bigoted and plain old ridiculous article about Druids, saying amongst other silly things, that Druids cannot be classed as part of a religion and that only the Judeo-Xtian tradition brings morals! I wont actually link to the page as don’t want to give that rag tag paper any popularity in google’s eyes!

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1317490/Druids-official-religion-Stones-Praise-come.html

This right wing Jewish reported is no stranger to controversy, and I was alerted to her name twice in one week.  There’s a bomb factory in brighton (EDO) which has been illegally supplying bombs to Israel, and so several protestors got inside and smashed it up but were found not guilty of criminal damage as they were acting as decommissioners of illegal warcrimes.  Phillips decreed that this meant they were anti-semetic, erm what??

Anyway within hours of the bigoted article about druids, hundreds of scathing and offended comments were posted from Pagans and non-Pagan’s alike.  A petition was created and in a few days there were about 4500 signatures.

On Monday I met with Druids and non Druids who like me were offended at this religious intolerance, and we went to the Daily Mail offices to hand in the petition, and then to the Press Complaints Commission (and then to the pub! :o)  It was great to meet fellow Pagans and notable faces like James Sunbird Carrington and King Arthur of the Arthurian Warband were there.  Arthur is currently picketing at Stone Henge for the return of ancient bones (something which I wrote about recently, tho in a different place) taken by a university, and also for a general change in the law that gives ancient graves more protection.  It’s funny how no-one would dream of desecrating recent graves, but apparently doing it to ancient ones is ok!

Anyway the PPC (Press Complaints Commision) is currently investigating the complaint and I will update you when I have more news!

James Sunbird Carrington was the organiser of the petition – He is among other things, an author and Druid and you can check out his blog here

How to do a Green Man Ritual

I found this great Green Man by Abby Willowroot and thought I ought to share!

A Green Man Ritual

Practicing the ways of the Green Man means living in harmony with nature and living according to the seasons. It means looking for the blessings and gifts that are unique to each time of the year.  Without winter, there is no spring; without summer there is no harvest.  rituals fo the Green Man can be done for many purposes – to heal the environment, to restore balance, or to ensure abundance and the success of new ventures.  Green Man rituals should be performed with green, white or light blue, and yellow candles.  Green candles are for growth, health and vegetation.  White or blue candles represent air.  Yelow candles shine with the light of the Sun and its vital energy and warmth.

.

Symbols used in Green Man rituals may include: a growing plant, a branch, fruit, dried grains, a small bowl of earth, leaves, berries, and acorns or other nuts.

.

A Green Man Invocation

I call to you now, spirit of nature, strong and free

Come and teach me, I am ready to honour you

I celebrate your gifts; I am ready to learn your truths

As my ancestors did before me.

I see your power and your pain, beneath the green mantle

Of the scars on your body and the great sadness in your eyes

You are no longer abandoned, we hear you again

We are ready, to honour your ways

Reveal yourself, Green Man

Weave your spells of green magic

Teach me and I will listen for your voice;

I will celebrate your sacred wisdom ways.

.

It is best to do a Green Man ritual outside, and if possible in a wooded place. Take your shoes off, sink your toes into the cool earth, and feel the energy of the Green Man move up through your body.  Before you begin your ritual, take a few moments to listen to the trees, notice how they rustle, creak and groan as the wind passes through them.  Breathe in the oxygen they have produced for you, and know this is the miracle of the Green Man’s Magic.

In earlier times peasants knew the ways of the fields and forest, and gave back to the Earth with the sacrifice to the Green Man.  Today we still have opportunities to make sacrifices and give back to the Earth, but the sacrifices we are making are those of care, awareness, and moderation.  Recycling and conservation are contemporary Green Man sacrifices.

Today the Green Man is reemerging into our consciousness.  His presence brings balance and energy to the reclaiming of our ancient heritage.  For men, the Green Man is especially important, as he is a guide to accessing balanced male power. In our time, the Green Man is emerging with a clear, strong voice, guiding us toward a healthier and more stable balance with nature.

Visualisation – Yes you can do it! – Here’s How

.

Have you tried visualisation and think it’s very difficult?
.

Maybe you think you can’t do it?
.

Well guess what, you can and I’ll tell you why & how!

Rainbow Meditation and Visualization

Recently I’ve been trying to learn how to astral travel.  I’ve started reading an excellent book by Robert Bruce about NEW or New Energy Ways – a system that doesn’t rely on getting to the awake/asleep point to travel (something I just can’t do!) but anyway more about that in a future post!  Early on Bruce points out that many people believe they have difficultly with visualisation, but that this is due to a mistaken concept of what visualisation is.  He explains that visualisation is NOT seeing the scene you are trying to picture, running like a movie in your head, but instead is ‘Mind’s Eye Visual Ability’ in other words

Visualization is NOT a visual skill. You are not supposed to actually see what you visualize. If you do see something it is then no longer classed as visualization. It then becomes a Mind’s Eye vision type of ability.’ (Robert Bruce, New Energy Ways Manual.)

When I first read this I thought to myself, ‘well I can see what I visualise’, but then I remembered that years ago I thought that I couldn’t visualise, because I did believe that you were supposed to view almost like a movie in your head (there are a select few people who do this but these are in a very small minority).  Bruce explains that visualisation is actually using your creative imagination – have you ever day dreamed or fantasized about something? Yes? Great! because this is what visualising is!  He gives a simple way to test it.

Excercise

‘get up and go to the kitchen, get a drink of water and then return to where you are now. As you do this, take note of everything you do and see and feel along the way. After you have done this, sit down and close your eyes and relax for a moment. Remember what you just did from the very beginning and recreate this entire sequence of actions with your imagination; in your mind’s eye. It is important to feel everything as if you were actually doing it. This is exactly like creating a fantasy based upon real life events. Remember yourself getting out of the chair and standing, and how the room looked as it moved around you as you turned. Remember your steps as you walked towards the kitchen, what you saw and felt when you arrived. Remember how your hand looked and felt as it reached out for a glass, filling and drinking it, and how the water tasted, smelt and felt. Remember returning the glass and walking back to your original position and then sitting down again. Do this in real time, taking roughly the same length of time recreating this in your mind’s eye as it took you to actually do it.’

As I read this I realised that I have come to associate visualisation with this kind of creative thought activity.  Whilst I can somewhat picture things, it is in my mind’s eye, and sometimes I ‘see’ myself as if I am looking down from above.  What has really helped me to develop this skill is doing audio meditations by Meditainment.  They do beautiful ones for all different reasons (eg to help you sleep, relax, deal with anxiety, give up smoking etc)  and each one is a different scenario from going down the river in a boat and entering a meadow to taking a bath in a coloured pool, or escaping an arctic storm to ‘chill out’ (sorry, cheesy pun) in your igloo.  The great thing about the meditations is they have lots of sound effects which help create realism, and they encourage you to use your senses, from smelling the flowers around you to imagining colours, feelings textures etc.  You can try out a full secret garden meditation mp3 here, you do need to give your name and email but it is well worth it.  I will speak to Meditainment and see if they will let me put a quick sample of one here.

Anyway, it’s not necessary to use audio meditations to practice and develop the visualisation skill, but it is fun and encourages you, and can be very beneficial for your health, and for me has definitely helped dramatically,  I’m very glad I discovered them.  But you can always practice by yourself, and now you don’t have to worry or feel you can’t do it because you can, everybody can!

Here is a more creative visualisation to try out again from Robert Bruce:

‘With your eyes closed, remember what it feels like to walk barefoot across a beautiful lush lawn on a lovely sunny day, with trees and shrubs and flowers all around you. Construct this from your memories, in your mind’s eye, and feel yourself as being there inside your fantasy creation. Remember a time when you actually did something very like this, or remember a scene from a movie or TV that you can use for this purpose. Feel yourself walking across the lawn towards a massive ancient tree with heavy, leafy branches hanging down all around. Some of these branches are touching the ground.

Sense the tree getting bigger and bigger as you approach it. Walking through a small break in the branches, you now move into the restful shade within its stately boughs. You find yourself standing in a secret clearing. You can smell the living wood and leaves of the tree, intermingled with soft, earthy smells like moss, bark, rotting leaves and damp earth. Walking closer to the great bole of the ancient trunk you see the shape of a comfortable looking chair molded in the living wood of the massive root structure. Soft green moss is everywhere and you can feel its friendly touch underfoot.

Moving closer you sit in this great chair and relax. Leaning back with hands clasped behind your head, you close your eyes and listen and feel and smell the secret world all around you. You hear the wind gently whispering and murmuring through branches. You hear small birds fluting and insects humming and fluttering all around, calling and chirping sweetly to each other. Smell and feel the wind, the flowers, the tree, the leaves, the moss and the grass all around you. Sit here awhile, feeling totally relaxed and at peace with the world, letting all your cares and problems drift away into nothingness. After a timeless moment you take a deep breath and return to your other reality, gently stirring your physical body back into wakefulness.”

If you’ve given this visualisation a go, congratulate yourself (you may want to record your voice saying it to make it easier) you’ve constructed a complex visualisation using memory and imagination with not just images but smells, sounds, textures and touch.  Well done!

What’s your thoughts? Can you visualise? Do you see a movie style thing or is it a case of using your creative imagination or something else? Have you tried any meditainment or other good visualisation/guided meditation tracks? Let me know about your experiences! x StormJewel
